Penang, My Favourite Shooting Ground
October 18th, 2009 | Photography Tips, Portraits, Seminars & WorkshopsI have always loved photographing in Penang. There is a special charm about this little island. The old architecture, history, exotic hawker food, and the bunch of great friends I have here…we are always invited out for great food. Perhaps it is the combination of all these great characteristics that makes me look forward to coming to Penang.
Jasmine and I arrived on Friday morning. As soon as we touched down, we received a text message that transportation was being arranged for by a great old friend. When we arrived at the hotel, we were told that our room had been upgraded to a suite room. It means I get complimentary WIFI and Jasmine gets to enjoy L’occitane products in the bathroom. That makes both of us very happy.
Today’s workshop was great fun. A couple of participants gave me a very gentle nudge about updating my blog. So here I am…three pictures shot less than 6 hours ago during the workshop.

Just a simple shot inside hall where we had our workshop. Ai Ying, who helped us in our previous workshop, returned to model for us again. Just a single light on softbox from right and reflector on left to soften the shadows.

Leonard, another model that returned for the second time. Again a single light snooted from left. Love how it illuminates both eyes…just enough on the left eye.

One of my personal favourite shots for 2009. Two units of SB800 on full cut CTB in the middle of the escalators. A SB800 on full cut CTO lights up Fionne. Everything triggered with Radiopoppers. Love these little radio triggers without which I couldn’t have created this shot.

This is where this shot is created from.

I like the last shot a lot. Excuse my ignorance, but what’s a radiopopper?

Love the shot of Ai Ying. Glad to see her back for more from your workshop Louis. You really should share more of your great works.

Billy: Radiopoppers are radio triggering devices for iTTL/eTTL flashes of Nikon and Canon. Radiopoppers provide a radio connection so that we can trigger the remote flashes even without the line of sight.
Jimmy: I would love to do more…really swarmed this year. Trying my best bro.
