This is the fifth year I’ve been running my wedding photography business. I started out as a lone ranger working from a tiny room at home. Today, we have a team of six with an office in Kota Kinabalu & a new studio in Kuala Lumpur. Accepting the Award at WPPI’s annual convention in Las Vegas this year, being the first Asia-based photographer to judge and speak at the world largest wedding photography convention is certainly a high point in my young career. I want to thank my mentors, close friends & God for fruits we reap today.

I’ve learned that to have a fulfilling career as a photographer requires so much more than just photography skills. Balance sheet, cash flow, marketing, closing a deal, pricing are just as important as aperture, shutter speed, white balance & lighting techniques.

Bridget & Nicholas leave a lasting impression on me. They have this brutal sense of honesty with each other & a quirkiness that I can’t quite describe. Most importantly, we had a great time. A lot of couples are bogged down by thinking and worrying too much. “Am I standing properly? Is my gown ok for the photography? Oh, I hate posing…” While all these are valid concerns that we address thoroughly prior to each shoot, have we asked ourselves what truly matters in your pictures? What do you want your children to see in your album 10 years from now? How cool your suit or gown was? Or how outstanding the makeup was?

How about how much daddy and mummy loved each other? Isn’t this the reason why we come together at the first place? The main thing is to keep the main thing, the main thing.

Let me worry about your poses and how to make you look good. I want you guys to focus on each other and be in the moment so that I can photograph the intangible connection between two persons and make it tangible for the viewers. So that when you look back at these pictures 10 years later, you’ll be reminded why you wanted to walk down the aisle at the first place.

It takes a lot of risks and trust to give so much control and room to a photographer. Bridget and Nicholas did just that. We had fun. They loved their pictures so much that added so many pages to their album. I am just honored to witness the love they share and to record it in photographs.

We put up our Facebook page last Thursday. Within a week, we’ve got close to 2100 fans. That’s 300 fans per day! OMG! You guys are really amazing. We are so overwhelmed by the response that we’ve decided to run a “I Love Louis Pang Studio” contest to thank you guys for the support & love.
