“Slow & Steady” Won This Race
July 18th, 2012 | Weddings“He spoils me,” said Hazarimah, better known as Emma.
The first three months of their courtship, Carl (whose full name is Fakaruddin) bought Emma huge expensive bouquets of flowers.
Never mind that the flowers ended up hanging upside down behind Emma’s family home (“I’ve got sinus!”). Carl also does all these small little things for her… the way he takes care of Emma, I HAD to ask, “Was it love at first sight for Carl?”
“YES!!!” she laughed. “Carl told me the first time he saw me, I was in my dad’s car. My family and I were in Lintas (Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia), driving past him.” (What eyesight!)
Now, Carl’s a smart man. He noticed the girl (WOW!, he must have said) and then, he noticed the name and address printed on the side of the company car. From that second on, he was on a mission – a “girl-hunt”.
When he finally tracked her down in Sandakan, he didn’t push hard. Turns out Smart Carl is also Patient Carl because he let things run its course. “We were just friends for a long time. And then, our relationship slowly evolved,” Emma revealed.
That first sighting was 10 years ago. This year, beautiful Emma & Carl tied the knot, amidst friends and tearfully-happy relatives, over several days of celebration. The lovely couple is now happily settled in their new home in Sandakan and is planning for their honeymoon getaway.
p.s. see the car in the photo? That’s Carl’s latest hobby, Emma said – 4-wheel drives. We’ve heard of best men, bridesmaids, ring bearers, flowergirls…. we think this one is Best Car.

And later, during dinner at Shangri-La’s Tanjung Aru Resort & Spa…. there are bags and blings and more blings!

Weddings are always fun when jokes are aplenty.

“What’s wrong, sweetie?” Emma gently wipes a tear off a little flowergirl.

Music is a must-have in every wedding – either a band or a solo singer belting out tunes from a karaoke machine.
